A former placer Au occurrence/mine located in sec. 36, T4N, R12E, MDM, 0.7 km (0.4 mile) E of Calaveritas, along Calaveritas Creek. Operated during the period 1953 to 1955. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 1,000 meters.
Mineralization is a placer Au deposit comprised of 6 feet of recent gravel overlain by 2 feet of soil, resting on schist bedrock. Local rocks include Paleozoic marine rocks, undivided, unit 4 (Western Sierra Nevada).
A dragline dredge was operated on Calaveritas Creek. The floating washing plant consisted of a trommel and sluices with a capacity of 100 cubic yards per hour.
The gravel averaged 25 (??) per cubic yard.
