A Mn occurrence located in the N½ (probable) sec. 5, T4N, R13E, MDM, 2.1 km (1.3 miles) W of Mountain Ranch (1.2 miles by road NW of Mountain Ranch; on crest and W flank of a low ridge). MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 500 meters.
The ore body strikes N35-55W and dips 60-75NE. A belt of metachert, 20 feet wide and several hundred feet long, strikes N35-55W and dips 60-75NE. It is gray when fresh, but is stained reddish brown by iron oxide, and is enclosed in gray sericite and quartz-sericite schist. Crusts and layers of iron oxide, and small quantities of manganese oxide occur along fractures penetrating the metachert. Local rocks include Paleozoic marine rocks, undivided, unit 4 (Western Sierra Nevada).
Local geologic structures include the metachert belt which is greatly contorted.
Workings include surface openings. An open cut 45 feet lonhg and 3 feet wide by 4 feet deep, runs N25E into the hill but does not extend below the soil.
