A former Cr mine located in the SW¼ sec. 3 & in sec. 10, T2N, R12E, MDM, 4.0 km (2.5 miles) E of Carmen City (AT S END OF A RIDGE 1/4 MI. N OF POOLES STATION), on private land. Discovered and first operated in 1905 and during World War I. Property consisted of 5 claims. Owned by John R. Leimbach (100%), California (1976). Operated by F.W. Dean and Fred Wilson (last operators) during WWI, California (1976). MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 10 meters.

The ore body strikes N30W and dips vertically at a thickness of 10 meters, width of 15 meters and a length of 45 meters. Ore body No. 1 is disseminated, tabular and ore body No. 2 is irregular. The primary mode of origin was magmatic differentiation. Primary ore control was lithology. Wallrock alteration is intense (carbonitization). Chrome ore occurs as lenses in serpentine. Most of the country rock is sheared, serpentinized saxonite. No ore observed in situ and only scattered fragments are found on the dump, some of which contain small amounts of kammererite. Local rocks include Mesozoic volcanic rocks, unit 2 (Western Sierra Foothills and Western Klamath Mountains).

Workings include surface and underground openings. Developed by open cuts and shafts. 3 open cuts and a shaft are scattered over a distance of 150 feet along a NW-trending line.

Total production was 315 long tons. 15 tons of that total were mined in 1905 for use as furnace linings. The re maining 300 tons were mined during WWI.
