A former lode Au mine located in the NW¼ sec. 1, T4N, R11E, MDM, about 4.35 km (3.5 miles) NW of San Andreas, along Spring Gulch just N of its junction with Chili Gulch. Operated in the 1870's, 1890's, and during the period 1896 to 1936. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 1,000 meters.
NOTE: The topo map clearly reflects this mine just S of the center of sec. 1 versus the MRDS database file data placing it in the NW¼. Also, the topo map reflects this mine by name as the "Gold Hill Mine" versus the "Golden Hill Mine."
Mineralization is a vein deposit hosted in slate and schist. The ore body strikes N30W and dips NE at a thickness of 2.44 meters. The schist is mineralized and fine-grained. Local rocks include Jurassic marine rocks, unit 1 (Western Sierra Nevada and Western Klamath Mountains).
Workings include surface and underground openings comprised of shafts (topo map reflects 2 shaft symbols) and open cuts. The main shaft is a 350 foot inclined shaft. Other shafts incude a 60 foot and a 100 foot shaft sunk in 1896.
