A placer Au occurrence located in the NW¼ sec. 36, T5N, R11E, MDM, about 2.35 km E of Golden Gate HIll, along Old Woman Gulch and SW of Pine Peak (4½ miles N of San Andreas). Property was 200 acres but only a portion is gravel-bearing. Operated in the 1880's and in 1935. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 100 meters. Tailings on map GQ-222 are in the SW¼NW¼.
Mineralization is a placer Au deposit located in an ancient channel. A thirty foot undeveloped quartz ledge which strikes NW, traverses part of the property. The country rock is slate and amphibolite schist. The gravel is cemented. The best values lie within the top 6 feet (2 meters) of gravel and not on the slate bedrock. Local rocks include Jurassic marine rocks, unit 1 (Western Sierra Nevada and Western Klamath Mountains).
Workings include surface and underground openings. Property was hydraulicked in the 1880's and again unsuccessfully in 1935. Underground openings are comprised of a 50 foot inclined shaft.
Gravel said to test at $0.50 to $1.00 (period values) per cubic yard.
