A former lode Au mine located in the N½ sec. 32, T2N, R12E, MDM, 1.3 km (0.8 mile) SE of Hodson (site and 2 miles W of Copperopolis. Operated during the periods 1925 to 1927, 1930's, 1942 to 1943 and 1953. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 100 meters. The topo map identifies the Wilbur Womble Mine as being located about 600 meters NNW of the Gold Knoll.

Mineralization is a vein deposit hosted in slate and greenschist. The ore body strike NW and dips 45NE at a thickness of 7.92 meters. Two quartz veins are approximately 200 feet apart. They are the main, or W, vein and the E, or Miller, vein. The veins are parallel and from a few feet to 26 feet thick E vein at the 100 foot level. The immediate hanging wall at the 115 level is an altered dike. The country rock is Mariposa slate and serpentine lies to the E. The slate is badly crumpled at the 115 level with the completely altered dike. Local alteration involves oxidation of the ore body in places. Local rocks include Jurassic marine rocks, unit 1 (Western Sierra Nevada and Western Klamath Mountains).

Workings include underground openings with an overall depth of 91.44 meters and comprised of a 300 foot inclined shaft on the W vein with levels at 50, 115, and 300 feet. A crosscut adit connects with the 50 foot level. The adit portal is 200 feet W of the shaft. Most workings are NW of the shaft. There is a 1,000 foot drift on the 300 foot levekl with 3 crosscuts to the E vein.

Analytical data results: The ore was reported to be $1.25 Au/ton (period values) on the E vein.
