A placer Au occurrence located in secs. 13 & 15, T4N, R9E, MDM, 0.9 km (0.6 mile) NE of Wallace, near the San Joaquin County line. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 500 meters.
Mineralization is a shoreline deposit of auriferous gravel about 8 feet thick. It lies on a relatively soft andesite bedrock. The gravel is tightly packed, mixed with sand and clay. It is estimated that the deposit amounts to 2 million cubic yards. Local rocks include Miocene nonmarine rocks.
Workings include surface openings/operations.
7,000 cubic yards of gravel were treated weekly using a dragline dredge. A totla of 21 men were employed on 3 shifts per day. A power shovel and stationary washing plant were located just E of Wallace in 1934-1935. A dragline and floating washing plant were used S of Camanche in late 1935.
