A former lode Au mine located at the center of the boundary between secs. 19 & 20, T4N, R12E, MDM, 1.2 km (3,900 feet) SSW of San Andreas. Operated intermittently during the 1870's, 1880's, 1890's, 1900, 1935 to 1962. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 500 meters.
Mineralization is a vein deposit hosted in greenstone and serpentinite. The ore body strikes NW and dips NE at a thickness of 2.44 meters. Amphibolite occurs to the E and metasediments of the Calaveras Formation to the W. The vein system is irregular with heavy gouge on both walls. Much of the quartz is crushed and mixed with gouge. The hanging wall is serpentine, and the footwall is greenstone. The vein is from 8 to 14 feet thick at 65 feet of depth in the N shaft. Local rocks include Jurassic marine rocks, unit 1 (Western Sierra Nevada and Western Klamath Mountains).
Workings include underground openings with an overall depth of 94.49 meters and an overall length of 60.96 meters, and comprised of 2 shafts at 225 and 300 feet deep, 1,000 feet apart.
