A former Au mine located in sec. 36, T5N, R11E, MDM, about 3 km ESE of Golden Gate Hill, along Spring Gulch and highway 49 (4 miles NW of San Andreas). Operated during the early 1890's. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 100 meters.
Mineralization is a vein deposit. The ore body is 10.97 meters wide. Controls for ore emplacement included a dike that is gold-bearing from wall to wall, except for approximately 5 feet near the middle. The mineralized dike is granular, buff-colored with large masses of quartz. There is some Au on the W wall. Local rocks include Paleozoic marine rocks, undivided, unit 4 (Western Sierra Nevada) and/or Jurassic marine rocks, unit 1 (Western Sierra Nevada and Western Klamath Mountains).
Workings include underground openings with an overall depth of 44.2 meters and comprised of a 145 foot deep shaft with crosscutting and drifting.
