A former Au-Ag-Pb mine located in the S½ sec. 6, T5N, R12E, MDM, 1.6 km (1 mile) NNE of Mokelumne Hill, on the N slope of French Hill (S ridge of Mokelumne River Canyon). Operated during the periods 1898 to 1907, 1914 to 1917, 1931, 1933 to 1938, and 1938 to 1942. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 500 meters.

Mineralization is hosted in granodiorite and slate. The ore body strikes N70E and dips 70SE at a thickness of 12.19 meters. Calaveras slate is the country rock on the E end of the property. The Easy Bird vein is from 2 to 40 feet in thickness. The hanging wall is granodiorite and the footwall is slate. There are several other parallel and intersecting veins, with the two main being the Blue Bird and the Hummingbird. The Easy Bird vein is intersected by 13 veins striking N. The Easy Bird vein is a fault-fissure vein. The series of 13 veins include the J.P. Morgan, Challenger and Fraction veins. The ore shoots are generally 15 to 20 feet long and 100 to 360 feet long, formed at vein intersections, with some pockets found. Local rocks include Mesozoic granitic rocks, unit 3 (Sierra Nevada, Death Valley area, Northern Mojave Desert and Transverse Ranges).

Workings include underground openings with an overall depth of 92.35 meters. Developed by a 303 foot deep verticla shaft with crosscuts to the vein at the 100, 200 and 300 feet. The drifts on these levels extend 1,100 feet NE and 900 feet SW. The adit from the S connects at the 100 level. Mining methodm was shrinkage stope.

Local structures include the Beatty Fault, which displaces the vein 50 feet to the N.

Production data are found in: Clark, Wm. B. & P.A. Lydon (1962).

Ore averaged $4 to $6 per ton (period values). No production record found.

Analytical data results: Au to Ag ratio = 4:1. Sulfides carry 90% of Au.
