A placer Au occurrence located in secs.23, 26 & 27, T3N, R14E, MDM, about 5 km due E of Vallecito, on the lower E slope of Table Mountain, along the Stanislaus River between Mariana Gulch and Deep Gulch. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 500 meters. Clark, Wm. B. & P.A. Lydon gives the E½ sec. 27 only. May have been Au in river gravels in sec. 22. According to Turner (1898), Au in sec. 27 only.
Local rocks include Paleozoic marine rocks, undivided, unit 4 (Western Sierra Nevada).
Bar gravel was worked in 1914 by turning the course of the river. The higher gravels were worked many years ago. Most of the Au is found in the pot holes in the limestone bedrock. It was planned to work the lower gravels beds with a suction dredge.
