A former Au occurrence/mine located in sec. 26, T5N, R13E, MDM, about 4 km NNE of Mountain Ranch, at the headwater of Murray Creek. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 1,000 meters.
Mineralization is a placer Au deposit located on the Fort Mountain paleochannel. A lava capping covers the channel to the E. The gravel is loose. Local rocks include Paleozoic marine rocks, undivided, unit 4 (Western Sierra Nevada).
Workings include underground openings comprised of an 80 foot vertical shaft sunk through gravel to bedrock. There are 300 feet of drifts to the E and W. The E drift showed pay gravel. This mine made about 20 gallons of water per minute. 3 men were employed.
