A Au occurrence located in sec. 1, T5N, R12E, MDM, 2.3 km (1.5 miles) ESE of Rich Gulch (town), on the N side of the North Fork Calaveras River. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 1,000 meters.
NOTE: The USGS MRDS file presents T&R values placing this occurrence in sec. 29, T5N, R12E; however, the coordinates provided place it in sec. 1. Further, that file contains rather cryptic data under references: IN 1 3 4 24 5N 12E 36 6N 12E 6 5N 13E. This can be interpreted as: in secs. 1, 3, 4, 24, T5N, R12E, sec. 36, T6N, R12E, and sec. 6, T5N, R13E, MDM. This last set of T&R data do not make sense since it would indicate the deposit covers many square miles of land. Unfortunately, the MRDS file does not contain any data providing further insight into the nature and size of this occurrence.
Local rocks include Mesozoic granitic rocks, unit 3 (Sierra Nevada, Death Valley area, Northern Mojave Desert and Transverse Ranges).
