A placer drift Au occurrence/mine located in the N½ sec. 35, T5N, R11E, MDM, 0.8 km (0.5 mile) ESE of Golden Gate Hill (coordinates of record) (4 miles S of Mokelumne Hill (town)), in the headwaters area of Geers Gulch. Operated prior to 1893, in 1924 and in 1936. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 100 meters. Tailings on map GQ-222 are in approximately the center W½ of the section.
Mineralization is a placer Au deposit located on the Chili Gulch paleochannel. Cemented gravel contains rhyolite fragments and is overlain by rhyolite tuff. Local rocks include Jurassic marine rocks, unit 1 (Western Sierra Nevada and Western Klamath Mountains).
Workings include surface and underground openings. An 1,100 foot bedrock drainage tunnel was driven in 1895. A dragline scraper was used to work old tailings in 1924. A tractor-drawn scraper, trommel, and sluices were used in 1936. Development includes 5 air shafts and caved drifts.
