A former hydraulic placer Au mine located in sec. 35, T4N, R12E, MDM, 1.4 km (0.8 mile) WSW of Caliveritas, on the Central Hill Channel SE¼. Operated during the periods 1901, 1906, 1910, 1936-1939. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 500 meters. Map GP-561 shows 2 mine locations in the SE¼SE¼ of the section.
The gravel bank averages 75 feet in height, with a width of about 600 feet and a length of 2,640 feet. It was estimated that there are 4,400,000 cubic yards of worable gravel, averaging 30 (?) a yard. The gravvel is tight but not cemented. The bedrock is a soft, laminated slate. Local rocks include Paleozoic metavolcanic rocks, unit 4 (Western Sierra Nevada Foothills).
Production: 1901 & 1906: 1,000 cubic yards of gravel were washed; January-March, 1910: 13,000 cubic yards washed; 1936-1939: 29,100 cubic yards washed. Hydraulic operations commenced in the early part of 1936, but ceased when heavyu rains washed out the ditches.
