A former Mo-W-Fe mine located in the NW¼ (950S 2100E from NW corner) sec. 11, T10N, R18E, MDM, 1.4 km (4,600 feet) E of Stevens Peak, N of Crater Lake (1 mile W of state highway 88), on National Forest land. Produced during 1943. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 100 meters.

Mineralization is a contact metamorphic deposit hosted in tactite skarn (hornfels). The ore body is tabular at a width of 12.19 meters. The deposit lies within a contact zone between granitic rocks on the W, and a roof pendent of schist and hornfels on the E. Local rocks include pre-Cenozoic metasedimentary and metavolcanic rocks undivided.

NOTE: A real geology of the vicinity of the mine is found in Geological Society of America Bulletin (1961), vol. 72(12): Pl. 2. The surface at the mine is skarn near a granodiorite-metssediment contact. This report makes it seem improbable that the mine extends into sec. 2.

NOTE: Regarding the references of Frondel & Wickman and Pemberton, p. 79: The data relate to a study of molybdenite polytypes and cite U.S.N.M. specimen 9.1868 Lake Tahoe, California. The article states "Contact metamorphic occurrences of molybdenite are known from this region. This specimen is probably from the Alpine Mine, south of Lake Tahoe, where molybdenite occurs together with powellite and scheelite in tactite (King 1966). Thus, those references and related data are incorporated into this file.

Workings include underground openings comprised of 2 W-trending crosscut adits several hundred feet long and 100 feet apart vertically, plus 1,000 feet of drifts.

Production information: 306 tons of ore were mined.

Analytical data results: 1% - 0.6% WO3.
