A former Cr mine located in sec. 9, T22N, R5E, MDM, 1.1 km (3,500 feet) E of Big Bar Mountain (coordinates of record), on National Forest land. Owned by the U.S. government (Forest Service (100%). Operated by L. D. Logan (1918); A. L. Wakeham (1918); and A. E. Brune (1918); and by the Swayne Lumber Co. (timeframe unstated). MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 500 meters.
There are 2 ore bodies with a general form of planar-banded lenses, striking N45W and dipping vertically at a thickness of 9 meters, a depth-to-top of 0 meters, a width of 5 meters, length of 50 meters.
The first ore body is disseminated and tabular. The second ore body is irregular. The primary mode of origin was magmatic differentiation and primary ore control was lithology. The tupe and degree of wall rock alteration are unknown.
Local rocks include Paleozoic metavolcanic rocks, unit 3 (Northwestern Sierra Nevada) and/or Mesozoic gabbroic rocks, unit 2 (undivided).
Workings included surface openings comprised of an open cut at 7.62 meters deep, 45.72 meters long and 4.88 meetrs wide. There was also a trench and unspecified underground openings.
Production information: 350 long tons were produced in 1917 and 503 tons in 1918. Reported to be worked out by September 1918.
MRDS NOTE: Mine could not be found in the dense forest.
