A former placer Au mine located in sec. 33, T21N, R4E, MDM, 2.1 km (7,000 feet) S of Cherokee. Operated by Dr. Frank M. Cannon, Point Reyes, California. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 500 meters.
Local rocks include Tertiary volcanic flow rocks, unit 19 (Lovejoy).
Workings include surface and underground openings. Initially, it was operated as a placer mine; in later years it was worked in a small way as a drift mine.
Poduction information: For many years it was one of the largest placer gold producers of the state. Production prior to 1870 was estimated at over $5,000,000 (period values). From 1870 to July 1886 it produced $5,008,208.62 (period values).
