A limestone occurrence located in secs. 22, 23, 26 & 27, T7N, R12E, MDM, 0.9 km (0.5 mile) ENE of Volcano, on private land. Holdings of 825 acres owned outright and mineral rights on about 520 additional acres. Property extends from Main Street in Volcano northward. 1½ miles S of Volcano are exposures of the limestone. Opened in 1969 by Owens-Illinois under case agreement with the American Cement Corporation. Operated by the Great Western Lands Development Company C/O J.J. Lerman (timeframe unknown). MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 1,000 meters.
Limestone at surface does not seem to extend into sec. 27 according to folio No. 11. Local rocks include Paleozoic marine rocks, undivided, unit 4 (Western Sierra Nevada).
Undeveloped. Six diamond drill holes were put down in 1928. A test at 115 feet assayed at 99.03% CaCO3. A surface sample gave 97.26% CaCO3.
