A former lode Au mine located in secs. 28 & 34, T6N, R11E, MDM, 1.0 km (0.6 mile) NW of Scottsville and 1.2 km (0.7 mile SE of Jackson, along the E side of highway 49, on private land. Holdings were 70 acres located on the Meek Ranch, an agricultural patent. Operated by the South Jackson Mining Co., C/O J. Schweitzer. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 100 meters. Considerable work was done during the period 1912 to 1915, but the amount of ore found did not justify the erection of a plant. After crushing less than 200 tons of ore at a custom plant in 1915, the property was closed and has been idle since.
Mineralization is a vein deposit hosted in slate, amphibolite and schist. The ore body strikes N and dips E. There are 3 veins. One is at the contact of slate and amphibolite schist, the other two are hosted in slate. Local rocks include Jurassic marine rocks, unit 1 (Western Sierra Nevada and Western Klamath Mountains).
Workings include underground openings comprised of a 577 foot vertical shaft with 3 levels and 2,100 feet of additional workings.
