A former placer Au occurrence/drift mine located in the SW¼ sec. 28, T8N, R11E, MDM, 2.0 km (1.3 miles) NW of Fiddletown (very close to the western boundary of the section and may be partially in sec. 29), on private land. Owned by Fred N. Pigeon (1953). Operations first started during the 1850's. The Pigeon family conducted intermittent operations until 1935. Operated by F.W. Nowell during the period 1935 to 1942. Idle since 1942 except for some re-timbering after WWII. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 500 meters.
Mineralization is a placer Au deposit in a paleochannel. The paleochannel varies from 20 to 50 feet in width and is about 6 to 8 feet in depth. Local rocks include Mesozoic granitic rocks, unit 3 (Sierra Nevada, Death Valley area, Northern Mojave Desert and Transverse Ranges).
Workings include underground openings comprised of a 300 foot adit driven into the paleochannel plus several hundred feet of drifts within the channel.
Produced $18,000 (period values) of Au during the period 1935-1942.
Assays averaged about $3.00 (period values) of Au per cubic yard.
