A former lode Au mine located in sec. 24, T7N, R10E, MDM, 0.9 km (0.6 mile) NNE of New Chicago, in the headwaters area of Snake Gulch, NE of the Italian Mine (about 1 mile E of Drytown), on private land. Claim was 21 acres. Operated by the Hobart estate and Emma Rose. Operated prior to 1868. Idle for many years and worked in 2 later, short periods. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 500 meters.
Mineralization is a quartz vein deposit hosted in greenstone and slate. The ore body strikes N and dips 65E. The footwall is black slate and the hanging wall is meta-diabase tuff. The small vein discovered at surface prospected well in Au. Local rocks include Jurassic marine rocks, unit 1 (Western Sierra Nevada and Western Klamath Mountains).
Workings include unspecified surface workings and underground openings comprised of a 65 degree inclined shaft 950 feet deep on the contact.
Prior to 1868 it had produced 10,000 tons of ore that yielded $9 (period values) per ton. There are no records of further production, though the total up to 1885 was claimed to have been important.
