A former lode Au-Pb occurrence/mine located in sec. 4, T6N, R12E, MDM, 0.7 km (0.4 mile) SSW of Pine Grove, on private land. Operated by William B. Pitts. Some development and prosepct work was done in 1924 and further activity took place in 1936. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 1,000 meters.
Mineralization is a vein deposit. Two series of parallel veins occur on the property, one trending N and the other E. The richest ore contained auriferous galena. Local rocks include Paleozoic marine rocks, undivided, unit 4 (Western Sierra Nevada).
Workings include underground openings comprised of 2 shafts at 125 feet and 265 feet with drifts and an adit. Shafts are near the intersection of veins but no substantial discovery was made.
Reported production was $18,000 (period values).
