A former lode Au-As mine located in sec. 10, T5N, R11E, MDM, about 3.35 km S of Scottsville, on private land. Operated by the East Bay Municipal Utility District, Oakland, California (1953). MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 500 meters.
Mineralization is hosted in greenstone and slate. The ore body strikes NW and dips 75NE. The quartz vein averaged a thickness of 8 feet. The hanging wall is greenstone and the footwall is slate. Veinlets of quartz are restricted to the area around the contact of the black slate and the greenstone. Local rocks include Mesozoic volcanic rocks, unit 2 (Western Sierra Foothills and Western Klamath Mountains).
Workings include underground openings comprised of a 3,500 foot adit to the vein at a depth of 800 feet.
Produced some rich ore in the early 1880's. Idle for many years thereafter. In 1924, a few thousand dollars of Au was produced. The total output was said to have been $300,000 to $400,000 (period values).
Analytical data results: Sulfides constitute 4% of the ore and assayed as high as $1,500 (period values) per ton.
