A Mn occurrence/mine located in the SE¼ sec. 10, T7N, R11E (MDM), 3.8 km (2.4 miles) S of Fiddletown, on private lease land. Discovered in 1942. Owned by Louis Lubanko, California (1974). Operated by Dr Joseph T. Stacy, California (1974). MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 1,000 meters. The property was leased by Dr. Stacy during WWII. Idle since WWII.
The ore body strikes N50E and dips 20-30NW at a thickness of 1.22 meters and a length of24.38 meters. Lenses of psilomelane and some pyrolusite, 1 to 3 feet thick, occur in massive metachert. The metachert is enclosed in rhythmically bedded metachert with original shale partings. Some occurrence of rhodochrosite is shown. The lenses grade into low-grade ore. An ore body 80 feet long has been exposed by the development work. Rhodonite was mined in 1955 and 1956 for gemstone material. Local rocks include Paleozoic marine rocks, undivided, unit 4 (Western Sierra Nevada).
Workings include surface and underground openings comprised of 2 fairly large cuts and 2 small adits.
A few truck loads of Mn ore were mined and shipped with a part of a shipment from the Stirnaman Mine. The small amount of ore shipped averaged 52% Mn, 3% Fe, & 4.5% silica.
