A former lode Au mine located in sec. 3, T5N, R11E, MDM, about 2.2 km S of Scottsville, along the E side of Hunt Gulch, on private land. Discovered in 1852. Operated by W. W. Steel and George M. Thomas. Operated originally in 1852 and 1855, when some ore was milled at $7 (period values) per ton. Minimum assessment work was done after the 1850's. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 100 meters.
Mineralization is a vein deposit hosted in greenstone and slate. The hanging wall is greenstone and the footwall is slate. Local rocks include Mesozoic volcanic rocks, unit 2 (Western Sierra Foothills and Western Klamath Mountains).
Workings include unspecified underground openings (topo map reflects symbols for an adit, prospect pit and possibly a shaft/raise).
