A former placer Au mine and clay occurrence/pit operation located in sec. 12, T5N, R9E, MDM, 1.6 km (1.0 miles) WNW of Buena Vista, on private land. Operated by J. M. Fancher. Operated prior to 1927. Idle in 1954. The pit was also worked for some years by the Livermore Fire Brick Co. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 500 meters.
Local rocks include Eocene nonmarine rocks, unit 1 (Northern and Central California).
Workings include surface and underground openings comprised of an open pit and adits. A Au placer operation 300 feet E and 750 feet NE of the pit . The open pit was worked until 1927, while under lease to W. S. Dickey Co., which changed to tunneling.
The deposit produced a yellowish fire clay from the upper bed and a hard blue-gray plastic clay from the lower bed.
