A clay occurrence/pit operation located in secs. 16 & 21, T6N, R9E, MDM, 0.9 km (0.6 mile) WSW of Clarksona, NNE of Dutschke Hill (around the base of Jones (Edwin Butte)). Operated by the Gladding, McBean and Co. The mining started at least as early as 1925 and has been continuous since (to the time of the MRDS database data = ??). Only the Edwin pit No. 4 was being worked in 1953. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 500 meters. The clay pits are labeled on the topo map.
Local rocks include Mesozoic volcanic rocks, unit 2 (Western Sierra Foothills and Western Klamath Mountains).
Workings include surface and underground openings comprised of 4 pits and 4 underground mines.
The material was used for the manufacture of fire brick.
