A former lode Au mine located in sec. 13, T7N, R12E, MDM, 3.1 km (1.9 miles) NE of Volcano, on the ridge E of Sutter Creek, on private land. Claim was 17 acres. Discovered in 1877. Owned by Peter Barone (1953). Operated during the period 1877 to 1884. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 1,000 meters.
Mineralization is a vein deposit hosted in greenstone and slate. The ore body is 1.22 meters thick. The footwall is slate and the hanging wall is greenstone. The vein is in the footwall, composed of crushed slate gouge. There are 3 ore shoots at 250, 250 & 60 feet. Sulfides are associated with the ore. Local rocks include Paleozoic marine rocks, undivided, unit 4 (Western Sierra Nevada).
Workings include underground openings comprised of 2 shafts at 433 feet and 420 feet deep.
