Mineralization is a clay deposit. The upper bed worked is 4 to 5 feet thick and is comprised of a chocolate-colored, plastic clay used to manufacture saggers. The lower bed is also 4 to 5 feet thick and is a white-burning, plastic clay. Local rocks include Eocene nonmarine rocks, unit 1 (Northern and Central California).
