A former lode Au-Cu-Fe mine located in sec. 28, T6N, R11E, MDM, 0.9 km (0.5 mile) SSW of Jackson proper (just within the western city limit), on private land. Property consisted of a claim of 44 to 45 acres and is probably the "South Bright" claim reflected in USGS folio No. 63. Operated by George E. O'Grady. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 500 meters.
Mineralization is hosted in greenstone and slate. The ore body strikes N20W and dips 43E at a thickness of 0.51 meter. Both slate and greenstone occur on the property with several quartz veins. One main vein lies entirely in greenstone, another at a lithologic contact containing quartz, calcite, Fe and Cu sulfides. Local rocks include Mesozoic volcanic rocks, unit 2 (Western Sierra Foothills and Western Klamath Mountains).
Workings include underground openings comprised of a 65 foot inclined shaft with a crosscut adit with a drift on the 45 foot level. A second shaft is 190 feet deep with a 125 crosscut at its base. A third shaft at the lithologic contact was sunk 480 feet.
No recorded production. The surface was worked in the early days by the Anita Gold Mining Co., which began sinking the shaft in 1895.
