A former lode Au mine located in sec. 2 and in the NE¼NW¼ sec. 11, T7N, R10E, MDM, 0.4 km (0.2 mile) WNW of Plymouth proper (just N of the town line), on private land. Discovered in 1865. Property was comprised of a claim of 12 acres. Operated by the Alpine Mining Co. Operated in the 1860's and 1870's, 1895, and the period 1910 to 1914. No important ore body was found and work was stopped. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 500 meters.
Mineralization is a quartz vein deposit hosted in greenstone and slate. The vein was called the Alpine, and may be a spur of the Empire vein of the Plymouth Mine. It descends to 500 feet of depth and branches as the results of a 400 foot wide greenstone block in the slate. Local rocks include Jurassic marine rocks, unit 1 (Western Sierra Nevada and Western Klamath Mountains).
Workings include underground openings comprised of an inclined 200 foot shaft and a vertical 500 foot shaft.
A few thousand dollars (period values) was produced in 1895.
