A former Mn-silica occurrence/mine located in the W½SW¼ sec. 22 and/or in the SW¼NW¼SW¼ sec. 26, T4S, R3E, MDM, 3.1 km (1.9 miles) WNW of Cedar Mountain (coordinates of record), N of Lang Canyon, on private land (fee ownership). Discovered and first produced in 1880. Owned by Mabel Newman (1950). Owned by V.A. Prindle, Oakland, California (100%) (1975). MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 500 meters.

Mineralization is hosted in Franciscan Complex chert & Late Cretaceous shale. The ore body strikes N55W and dips 72S at a thickness of 1 meter, depth-to-top of 5 meters, a width of 4 meters, and a length of 24 meters. Orebody No. 1 is sedimentary. Mn ore and heavy staining in bedded cherts. The ore is mostly siliceous but small pockets of manganese oxides, with or without numerous veins of quartz are found. A large body has been worked since 1880, from time to time. The main body is a massive, siliceous bed enclosed in, and conformable to, well-bedded green radiolarian chert and shales. The dip varies from 10 to 30SW. The thickness of the ore bed varies from 2 to 3 feet, with an average of 2.5 feet. It contains small pockets of ore of good quality but for the most part it is siliceous. About 230 feet NW of the main working is a small pit that exposes oxide ore in chert that might be prospected. Bog manganese is associated with a spring in the area. The primary mode of origin was sedimentation and the secondary mode was oxidation. Primary ore control was bedding. There is no wallrock alteration. Local rocks include rocks of the Franciscan Complex, unit 1 (Coast Ranges).

Workings include surface openings comprised of a large open cut and small pits.

Production was 350 tons.
