A Mn occurrence located in the E¼NW¼ sec. 5, T4S, R3E, MDM, 3.9 km (2.4 miles) NW of Mendenhall Springs, W of Crane Ridge and E of Arroyo Mocho, on private land (private lease). Discovered in 1917. Owned by John M. Kelly and May K. Devany (1950). Owned by Mrs. Kelly, California (1974). Operated by Holbrook and McGuire (1974). MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 1,000 meters.

The ore body is 2.13 meters thick. Two ore bodies of massive siliceous ore lie parallel to the bedding of the enclosing green chert and shale. The strike is N65W and are nearly vertical on a high angle to the N. Psilomelane is the principal metalliferous constituent of the ore but near the surface a small quantity of Mn dioxide (pyrolusite) is present. The northern ore body is 5 to 7 feet thick and the southern body, separated from the first by 6 feet of barren chert, is at least 3 feet thick. Ore minerals are oxides of manganese, carrying a variable quantity of white, granular silica in irregular patches. Most of the ore it too high in silica to be marketed without resort to some process of concentration. Local rocks include rocks of the Franciscan melange.

Workings include surface and underground openings comprised of a 25 foot shaft plus surface trenching.
