A Mn occurrence/prospect located in the NE¼SE¼ sec. 8, T4S, R3E, MDM, 1.8 km (1.1 miles; 5,900 feet) NW of Mendenhall Springs, along the eastern slope of Cedar Mountain Ridge, W of Arroyo Mocho. Discovered in 1918. Owned by Mr. William Freitas (1974). MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 1,000 meters.
A massive bed of Mn-bearing material, comprised of maroon chert, finely porous pink silica, and stains and fracture fillings of Mn oxides, is exposed in the workings. The relation of this body to the adjacent rock is uncertain but it appears to be overlain to the S by greenstone. Local rocks include rocks of the Franciscan Complex, unit 1 (Coast Ranges).
Workings include surface openings comprised of a small open cut.
Ten tons of material has been mined and stacked (1918). No production was recorded. No shipping ore could be recovered by hand sorting.
