A former underground Cu-Pb-Ag occurrence/mine located 1.1 km (0.68 mi) NNW of Wallace Butte (coordinates of record), on the northern slope of the butte, E of Copper Canyon, ½ mile S of the Colorado River, along the uphill side of the Tonto Trail, in the Shinumo quadrangle, on U.S. National Park Service land (Grand Canyon National Park). MRDS database accuracy for this location is not stated. Collecting on National Park lands is strictly prohibited.
Mineralization is hosted in Neoproterozoic pegmatite within the Vishnu Schist. The orebody is pinch & swell veins with a thickness of 0.61 meter. Controls for ore emplacement included Pre-Cambrian faults. The deposit is Cu mineralization in pinch & swell veins that follow Precambrian faults in Prescott granodiorite (?). Local rocks include Early Proterozoic metavolcanic rocks. NOTE: The USGS MRDS file states that the pegmatites are in the Vishnu Schist, while the source of the data involving the Prescott granodiorite is unknown. Local rocks include Early Proterozoic metavolcanic rocks.
Workings include underground openings with a length of 30.48 meters and an overall depth of 15.24 meters.
Production data are found in: Noble, L.F. (1914).
