Bangor Creek Prospect; Bornite Prospect
The Darrington Bornite prospect is one of the largest failed mining ventures in Washington. The project was aimed at mining a vein that outcropped near the top of Liberty Mountain. A 3000' crosscut was driven to a point where the vein should have been, but did not reach it since the vein was too shallow. A large mill was built, with much of the equipment from it never running before it was removed. The mineralization they were chasing appeared to be a small skarn zone that averaged 12% Cu in the high grade sections.
Note: Huntting (1956) has the location incorrect, and in the Silverton district. This district confusion is likely due to uncertain boundaries in this area.
