A former U-V occurrence/mine located in the SW¼ sec. 1, T40N, R28E, G&SRM, on the N prong of Dry Mesa. The geographic coordinates presented arfe taken from USGS MRDS file #10027498. Alternate geographic coordinates presented in MRDS file #10207915 are: 36.82922, -109.33128.
Mineralization is tyuyamunite and carnotite in irregular tabular layers hosted in Late Jurassic claystone, siltstone and sandstone of the Salt Wash Member of the Morrison Formation on the NE limb of the Toh Atin anticline. Ore is found in clusters, usually associated with carbonaceous detritus. carbonized logs and trash are abundant. Tyuyamunite, schröckingerite, and metatyuyamunite occur in scattered, relatively small bodies in fine-grained shaly and limy sandstone of lower Salt Wash. Carbonized logs and plant matter are abundant. Local rocks include rocks of the Morrison Formation.
Workings include unspecified underground openings.
Production for Plot #1 was a total of 3,507 tons @1.86% V2O5. Mined for V content in 1943-1944 from Vanadium Corporation of America plots 1 and 6-13. Also, minor production from here included with VCA west reservation plot
6 total.
Remaining resources probably limited and of low-grade.
