A former U-V occurrence/mine located in the S½ sec. 29, T38N, R29E, G&SRM, 3.8 km (2.4 miles) ENE of Kinusta Mesa (coordinates of record), on Sunnyside Mesa.
NOTE: The USGS MRDS file #10283020 comments on the conflicting data between that file and file #10026880. Data in this Mindat page are taken from MRDS file #10283020, except as specifically stated to come from file #10026880 within this note and elsewhere. The latter file presents geographic coordinates of 36.74446N, 109.27568W, and places this locality in sec. 36, T39W, R28E, G&SRM, 3.3 miles NE of Alcove Canyon.
Mineralization is carnotite in irregular, tabular layers hosted in Late Jurassic claystone, siltstone and sandstone of the Salt Wash Member of the Morrison Formation (MRDS file #10026880). Ore is found in clusters, usually associated with carbonaceous detritus. Host rock is the Gila conglomerate. Tyuyamunite-type ore occurs in medium-grained, shaly Salt Wash sandstone with carbon matter, 40-50 feet above contact with the Bluff member. Local rocks include rocks of the Glen Canyon Group (MRDS file #10026880).
Workings include small underground operations.
Production was 28 tons of ore @ 0.16% U3O8; 3.10% V2O5 (1955). From May to October, 1943, Wade, Curran and Company shipped 475 tons of ore @ 2.75% V2O5.
Scattered resources are limited.
Analysis test results: 5 samples 0.05-0.11% e U3O8; 0.03-.15% U3O8; 0.94-5.00% V2O5.
