The Arctic Mining Company was organized in 1853 on 520 acres where four veins were discovered. Disputes within company management resulted in less than favourable amounts of copper recovered; however, 500 tons of copper was produced by 1899. In 1899, the company reorganized into the Artic Copper Mining Company (the "c" was intentionally left off the name) with the intention of taking over the Belt Mine properties. This take over bid was halted when the newly formed Victoria Copper Company bought out the Artic later in 1899. Little is known of the property after this point. Copper and silver can be found in the rock piles.
