3 quarries are lined up along the same pegmatite in Hurd Park. Very little is known of the origins of these quarries. Some are quite large and deep, but the dumps seem small for such an elaborate excavation. Much annite and almandine is present in the pegmatite.

Very little has been written about these quarries.
Jones (1960) reports albite, autunite, manganapatite as fluorescent minerals.
Ryerson (1972) states "Albite, autunite, chrysoberyl, columbite, and manganapatite are reported from this locality."

Chrysoberyl is EXTREMELY unlikely - there is ONLY one confirmed place in Haddam for this mineral in Connecticut and that's it. Probably just regular beryl.

There is a fourth quarry some distance away, located on the split rock trail. The pegmatite is very different from that of the other quarries, with more radioactive minerals present. This quarry may or may not be related to the others in the park.
