A former underground Cu-Ag-U occurrence/mine located in the NW¼ sec. 2, T29N, R2E, G&SRM, 3.7 km (2.3 miles) ENE of Woodin AND 8 miles N of Willaha (Red Butte SW 7.5 minute topo map), on National Forest land. Owned by Tiverkamp and W. Coatney (1976). Operators included William H. Lockridge, Anita Copper Company, Consolidated Arizona Company and the Arizona Giant Mining Company. Operated 1907 to 1956. The U.S. Atomic Energy Commission report locates this site at sec.7, T29N, R1E, G&SRM. Poorly located "near Anita, south of Grand Canyon Village."
Mineralization is a Cu-Ag-U deposit hosted in the Late Permian Kaibab Limestone includes secondary copper minerals. Copper carbonates are concentrated along joints of the host rock (Madera diorite). A NW-trending, vertical fault with a vertical dip cuts the mineralized area. Local alteration includes pyrite altered to limonite. Seemingly unmineralized wall rock in drifts and stopes count 4-5 x background radiation. Local rocks include Permian sedimentary rocks.
Workings include surface and underground openings comprised of old underground Cu workings with some open cuts. Workings include open cuts, short drifts and underground workings to a depth of 25 feet.
Production was 390 tons of ore containing Ag & Cu.
Analytical data results: Ore assayed in 1923 as 25% Cu and 3 ounces Ag per ton. Analysis results: 0.002-0.006% e U3O8; 0.002-0.004% U3O8.
