This mine on lot 285, 7th district, is situated close to Noontootly Creek. A placer deposit occurring here along a branch was mined before the Civil war, the deposit forming a continuation of a placer deposit along Noontootly Creek. On a hillside near the placer considerable mining has been done at different times on auriferous quartz veins. Several old tunnels, shafts and open cuts are to be seen at the locality on the side of the hill. A number of small quartz veins composed of granular quartz containing apparently only small amounts of sulphides occur here together with some larger veins which show a thickness in places of several feet. The mining operations seem to have been confined principally to the smaller veins. In 1901, the mine was worked for about a year by the Rantze Hill Gold Mining Company, who installed a Huntington mill at the locality. It could not be ascertained what gold was secured. Mr. Willis Garrett of Newport, Ga., exhibited some specimens of ore that had been taken from the mine that were quite rich in free gold.
