This locality may be a myth. The story is that George Andrews found a gem smoky quartz crystal at this site, which he sold for $50.00 to Kunz, of Tiffany's in New York City, who had it made into a 6-inch sphere that was supposedly sold by Tiffany's for $1,000 to a museum. But this same story is told about the incident in reference to an abutting township across the state line in Chatham, New Hampshire, where South Baldface Mountain also has similar deposits. We may never know which site the crystal came from. But he did find one and did sell it to Kunz, who did have a sphere made from it and sold it to a museum. Elucidation awaits further evidence.
