A former underground asbestos mine located about ¾ mile W of Mule Hoof Bend (Oxbow Bend), about 43 road miles N of Globe, on National Forest land. Discovered 1916. Produced 1920-1953. Owned by the Jaquays Mining Co. (1982).
Mineralization is a linear and tabular ore body(ies) hosted in Mescal Limestone. The ore zone is 365.76 meters long, with a depth-to-bottom of 106.68 meters and a thickness of 0.05 meters, and 0 dip. Ore control was a contact zone and fracturing. Ore concentration was contact metamorphism. An associated rock unit is diabase.
Workings include several adits, drifts, and stopes totalling 91.44 meters long. Room and pillar mining was practiced. Past production occurred.
Assay data: Asbestos fiber ½ to 3 inches, soft, excellent tensile strength.
