Horsahallen, Simrishamns kommun, Skåne, Sverige
Horsahallen (Horsehall) is an old fluorite & galena (?) occurrence located approximately 1 km south of Simrishamn along the coast. The name is derived from “Horsa” (Horse- UK) and “hall” (berg, klippa (Sw) = rock)- thus a rock where you can see horses. Not only horses but a lot of other figures, axes, waggons etcetera as rock carvings of bronze age. The Horsahallen itself is a small peninsula out in the sea- and the quarry is just a few meters inland.
Hisinger (1826) use the name "Horsehall bei Gladsax" but he probabaly refers to Gladsax mine.
Note:
Specimens claimed to be from Simrishamn Quarry are likely from Horsehall Q. if it is a pre- 1900 specimen, and from Svartehäll if it is a 20th century specimen.
