A former small underground Cu mine located ½ mile north of Littleshot Camp, about 10 airline miles NNW of Patagonia, at an elevation of about 6,840 feet. Discovered 1915. Owned by the Madera Mining Co. NOTE: Alternate coordinates provided: 31.7064N, 110.8597W.
Mineralization is associated with a fault contact of the massive garnetiferous quartz schist, which is intruded by a fine-grained, reddish aplite dike. The contact has a dip of about 60º. The host rock units are the Mt. Wrightson Formation and the Madera Canyon Granodiorite. Schrader's location puts the mine in granodiorite while the description puts it in schist. Ore control was the shear zone.
Malachite and chalcopyrite are contained in small masses or bunches, near the contact, mostly favoring the schist side. These minerals also occur principally along seams and sheeting planes as exposed in the shaft. The generally highly metamorphosed condition of the schist, which in places is altered to hornstone or is epidotized with a considerable development of specularite, amphibolite, and other minerals, suggests that it may have been baked by an underlying batholith and is probably much older than any of the igneous rocks in the area.
Regional structures include tilting and broad open folds in the south and extensive faulting in the north; thrust and high angle normal faulting and folding.
Workings include a 50 foot long tunnel and a 16 foot deep shaft.
