Commodity: Main operation closed in 1958, after many years as a major producer of lead, silver and zinc with some copper and a little gold. District has produced lead and silver most of time since about 1870, with peak in 1915-20 and in late 1930s to 1940, low in 1929-32; all zinc production since 1910. (McKnight, 1960?, unpublished data.)

Development: Nothing but assessment work done until 1922 when it was developed by d. C. Robinson.
Geology: Ne trending quartz vein in sheared rock. Contained 20% Pb through 14 foot thickness near the surface, lean at depth ores are: (1) bedded replacement deposits in Cambrian, Devonian, and Mississippian limestone, dolomite, or hornfels, at intersections with fissures; (2) replacement pipes crosscutting bedding of Mississippian limestone beneath shale; and (3) fissure filling with replacement of breccia along fissures in limestone (as above) and Mississippian quartzite. Igneous rocks are small stocks, dikes, and sills of monzonite, monzonite porphyry and rhyolite; all of tertiary (eocene ?) age. Considerable oxidized ore was mined in early days.
