Old sulphur mine located in the territory of the former fief of Gibellini, subject of a territorial dispute between the municipalities of Racalmuto and Montedoro in the 18th and 19th century that ended in 1844. Indeed, the territory was recognised as part of the municipality of Montedoro (Caltanissetta province), but after unification of Italy (1861) it was reassigned to the municipality of Racalmuto as a result of border adjustments between the provinces of Girgenti and Caltanissetta.

Sulphur was mined from three layers, locally named "il Bastardo" (i.e. the Bastard), "manzo" (i.e. bull calf), and "regio" (i.e. royal): "il Bastardo" vein, 1-2 m in average thickness, is embedded in tripoli (white diatomaceous earth rich in fossil fish remains); the other two veins, 5-6 m in average thickness, are connected together and embedded in clays.

The mine was operated until the middle of the 1970s and yielded excellent sulphur crystals.
