Three quarries around Tiffin were described and observed by N. Winchell in 1873. This locality will refer to "Quarry No. 1" and "Quarry No. 2" as described by Winchell (1873). In Carlson (1983, 1991) he also lists the "Big Four Quarry" in Tiffin as part of this general locality, but since it was not observed by Winchell (1873) it should remain a separate sub-locality.

Quarry No. 1 was located on the corner of Washington Street and Water Street. Leeson (1886) stated that Jerry Sullivan, an early settler of Tiffin, opened the quarry at North Washington Sheet. Since this was the first quarry described by Winchell (1873) it will be referred to as Quarry No. 1.

Quarry No. 2 was located a quarter mile away from the first quarry on the east bank of the Sandusky River. Winchell (1873) stated that this quarry was also known as the City Quarry.

On March 25, 1913 a catastrophic flood destroyed a large portion of Tiffin and was the most likely cause of abandonment of these two quarries. There is little evidence of these quarries today.
